i was babysitting a little boy and girl once and the boy asked me if i had a boyfriend and i said “no!! but i have a girlfriend!” and he said “like a friend thats a girl?” and i said “no like a boyfriend but they’re a girl instead of a boy! we still do couple things but we’re just both girls” and he said, without missing a beat, “oh ok! are you gonna marry her?”

like it’s literally that easy for kids to understand

The same Hebrew word that is used in Genesis 2:24 to describe how Adam felt about Eve (and how spouses are supposed to feel toward each other) is used in Ruth 1:14 to describe how Ruth felt about Naomi. Her feelings are celebrated, not condemned.
And throughout Christian history, Ruth’s vow to Naomi has been used to illustrate the nature of the marriage covenant. These words are often read at Christian wedding ceremonies and used in sermons to illustrate the ideal love that spouses should have for one another. The fact that these words were originally spoken by one woman to another tells us a lot about how God feels about same-gender relationships.

i need to look into this

i mean the fact that naomi was her mother in law and the ultimate ending of the story being ruth’s apparently very romantic marriage to a rich guy might put a damper in that?
but maybe not. hell, young woman marries into family, all males in family die, a romance develops between her and her mentor, former mother in law, and she ends up getting a rich dude to marry her to support them both? idk

actually we just talked about the Ruth/Naomi story in my Bib. Heritage class the other day
there were lots of relationships between half-sisters and brothers, first cousins, etc., lots of stuff we would consider incest nowadays. naomi was at an age when she couldn’t bear any more children, so ruth was the one who had to get married. it wasn’t necessarily for money, tho that was a big part, but because the beduin culture was a patriarchal society she needed to get married and bear sons so that she and naomi could be guaranteed to have a stable future since all of her husbands belongings would go to the son upon the husbands death. and children couldn’t abandon their parents as it was considered completely horrific to do so in that culture, so any sons she would have bore would be obligated to take care of ruth and naomi.
just thought i’d give some context, since the idea of ruth loving naomi like that doesn’t seem too far-fetched to me when looking at it that way
